Below is a summary of the features that PeachCare For Kids is providing for families across the state.
What is PeachCare For Kids?
PeachCare is a full health care program for Georgia’s uninsured children living in families with income levels within 247% of the poverty line income as established by the US government. Here at Omega Pediatrics, we accept Peachcare For Kids which is a Medicaid Plan.
Background History of Peachcare For Kids
The beginnings of PeachCare for Kids are found in1997 when the US Congress established the state Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) meant to increase and expand coverage for US children living in low-income families. The individual states are able to choose and expand the Medicaid program, or use a recognized and established private health insurance plan, or to put together a combination of both options.
Georgia’s General Assembly decided in 1998 to have a program that would be administered by the Medicaid division of DCH yet separate from Medicaid. This program would be 75% funded by the Federal and 25% funded by the State, which is a larger federal contribution than is allowed under normal Medicaid. In 2009 this new program, called SCHIP, was reauthorized as part of the children’s health insurance program reauthorization act.
With this program children are provided with doctor care when sick, preventive immunizations and regular checkups, specialist care, dental care, vision care, hospitalization, emergency room services, prescriptions, and mental health care. PeachCare is free for children under six years of age going up to a maximum amount of $72 per family. Co-payments for some services range from $0.50 to $12.50. As of the end of 2016 over 134,000 children are enrolled in PeachCare for Kids.
Omega Pediatrics ensures that your access to your primary care provider is seamless, unhindered and sensitive to the needs of the family. Our doctor is one phone call away and that in itself is priceless. We also have some tools that help keep messages flowing between the doctor and the family such as patient portal and JamboDoc.
PeachCare for Kids members can access their program as well as a wealth of information through the new Georgia Gateway customer portal which has recently replaced the old www.peachcare.org website. This new portal has been online and available since February 6, 2017, and you’ll need to create a new account in order to access your coverage. For members that also have a COMPASS account, they will be able to use the identical credentials on the new portal.
Recent Good News
The great news for plan members is that given these recent changes the premiums for the months of February and March have been waived. These changes are also detailed in a letter that was sent to all plan members earlier this year.
