Dr. Michael Nwaneri

MD, MBBS, MTropPaed, MBA

One of the easiest ways to interact with me and get to know me is to meet me one-to-one when I interact with patients, families and colleagues. I am fun-loving, inquisitive and very interested in people. I have a spectacular wife and two amazing daughters. I am a born-again Christian. Below you can read a little bit more about me and what my professional life has been.

I have been a physician since 1996. My medical school training was at the University of Nigeria Enugu from 1988 to 1995. After my internship and a 1 year rural medicine national service, I commenced residency training in Pediatrics at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Nigeria. In 2004 on completion of fellowship in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, I proceeded to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine Master of Tropical Pediatrics program.

I came to the United States in 2007 and worked in various capacities conducting sickle cell disease research at the University of Minnesota and also at the Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota sickle cell disease program.

From 2008 to 2011 I was enrolled in the Pediatric Residency program of the University of Minnesota.

My work experience since completion of residency in the U.S.A. has included Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minnesota and the Mayo Clinic Health System Red Wing Hospital up to the end of 2014.

I worked briefly with the CDC Ebola monitoring efforts in 2015 before taking up positions as pediatric hospitalist at Tift Regional Hospital Georgia and later working at the Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin Georgia.

I now work as Pediatrician at Omega Pediatrics and The Obesity Prevention Center in Roswell Georgia. There we are changing the paradigm of pediatric primary care from a “when available” model to an “on demand” model. We emphasize accessibility and love.

I am also one of the facilitators of the Georgia AAP Educating Physicians in the Community (EPIC) initiative to update physicians about lactation and immunizations.

My Board Certifications are in General Pediatrics (2012) and also in Obesity Medicine (2015). I also have an MBA from Smartly Institute in Washington DC, U.S.A.
