Crystaline J. Prothro
RN, C-FNP
To know me is to know a god-fearing, food-loving, life-of-the-party type of person. As a child of a minister, James S. Prothro, and registered nurse, Donna Prothro, I have always been described as a people person and always wanting the best for those around me. I have an older sister, Precious, a younger sister, Mishae, and a younger brother, Sir James. I have a church family that I love so much and has been a large part of my life for 37years. I love spending time with my family and I believe in the power of family and church community support to aid in my personal and professional success.
As a young girl I thought I wanted to be a lawyer but after reflection, I think that was only because I wanted to sue all the potato chip companies for filling the bags with air instead of more chips. Children are just so innocent. After that, I wanted to be a pediatrician but during my senior year, I decided on a career in nursing instead. Watching my mother work as a nurse was inspiring and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Although, she works in oncology and I was eager to be an emergency room nurse. Below is a little bit more about me and my professional journey.
I graduated high school in 2003 and was accepted into Georgia State University. I quickly realized that a large college campus wasn’t intimate enough for me and the nursing field was a competitive and saturated area. I decided to continue my journey to be a nurse but I wanted to make a few stops that might be beneficial in the future. I graduated as a Medical Assistant in 2006, received my license as a Practical Nurse in 2010 and received my associates degree as a Registered Nurse in 2013. I decided to further my education and received my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 2016.
I worked as a Registered Nurse and charge nurse in the Emergency Department for Southern Regional Medical Center for 2 years when I decided to go back to school for my Master’s Degree and become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I completed this program and received my license and certification for the state of Georgia in May of 2020. During my Master’s program, I also worked in the Emergency Rooms of Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory Hillandale. I also worked as a hospice nurse on the impatient units at Emory University Hospital and Emory University Midtown Hospital (Fun fact: Midtown was formerly known as Crawford Long Hospital where I was born).
As I studied to be a Family Nurse Practitioner, I completed clinical (or internship) hours at family practices, OB/GYN and pediatric offices. As an added treat, the pediatric office I gained my training from was non other than Omega Pediatrics with Dr. Michael Nwaneri. After graduating and receiving my license, I was offered an opportunity to work with Dr. Nwaneri and the wonderful staff at Omega Pediatrics. I accepted. It has been one of the best decisions I have made. I look forward to continuing my relationship with Omega Pediatrics and the wonderful families I get to interact with and help through knowledge, education and support.
