Introduction

Buckhead is a substantially wealthy northern district of Atlanta located in Fulton County, Georgia. Since the 1950’s, this region has been considered an area of extraordinary wealth. Current use of the term “Buckhead” defines the district as the “V” area between Interstate 85 and Interstate 75. Primarily a commercial and financial center, much of central Buckhead is comprised of high-rise developments—condominiums, office buildings and hotels. The district’s residential neighborhoods, which can be found throughout heavily wooded forests and hills, surround its urban center. Those who enjoy the urban feel of living in a dense city can find themselves at home in Buckhead.

The district also hosts many community events and festivals open for everyone.

Parts of Buckhead see the recent construction of PATH400, a 5.2-mile multi-use trail that will run along the Georgia 400 tollway and will connect parks, trails, schools and neighborhoods to central Buckhead. This impressive project will provide an alternate mode of transport for Buckhead’s residents when finished; it is expected to be completed in 2020.

The Buckhead district is a testament to Atlanta’s economic history and progress. With Lenox Square, one of the country’s first malls, which was created in 1959, and the modernist high-rises that overtake the skyline, Buckhead is a prime example of Georgia’s strong economic base.
